bend locations.
7. Welding of existing joints on the existing 72‐inch pre‐stressed pipeline at one bend
location.
8. Cleaning of the interior of the existing 84‐inch and 72‐inch pipeline in areas where
pipeline pigging operations cannot reach to remove zebra mussel build up. For
example, all areas upstream and downstream of the pig insertion and retrieval points
will need to be cleaned manually. All outlets on the pipeline and two inline butterfly
valves will be cleaned. In addition, all pump station piping up to the pumps will be
cleaned and the pump screens in the lake will be cleaned which will require divers.
9. Replacement of existing air valves with new air valves.
10. Pumping of low spots on the pipeline that are not drained by blow off valves, and
cleaning these low spots.
11. Pigging of approximately 10‐miles of 72‐inch pipeline to remove any zebra mussels from
the pipeline interior.
12. Pigging water collection basin, approximately 1,700 linear feet of 42” HDPE pipe,
discharge works, and collection basin at the Sherman Water Treatment Plant to detain
the pigged water.

The project began by connecting to a 24" watermain running along Pearce Ln. The line then traveled along the edge of Elroy Rd. for approx. 1 mile. The line then travels cross country for approx. 4000 additional feet before connecting to an existing 36" line. This was also the first project in the City of Austin that was allowed to use 36" RW gate valves, which made for a quick and easy installation.

When widening of Hwy. 29 was implemented, the 30" line had to be relocated. Lewis Contractors won the contract to relocate this line. The project started on the SW corner of I-35 and Hwy 29, bores north across Hwy 29, then opens cuts along and in a county road. A portion of the line travels across country before reconnecting with the 30" line just east of D.B. Woods Rd. The 30" line was upsized to 42" Ductile that was supplied by ACIPCO. Upon completion of the 42" line, the 30" line was removed to facilitate the widing of Hwy. 29.

After that it ran for approx. 2000 feet in SH-130 ROW then contiued across country in the CAPMETRO RR ROW. 2200 LF of 27" interceptor parallels the Railroad tracks which is installed by tunnel. The tunnel portion included 5 reach pits varying in depth from 23' to 47'.

Owner: City of Austin/ TXDoT/ Zachry/Gilbert Location: Austin, Texas Total Construction: $10,548,720 Job Start Date: December 2003 Scheduled Completion: April 2006 Project Description: In the summer of 2003, Lewis Contractors was awarded an almost $10Mil contract by the joint venture Zachry/Gilbert Constructors. Our portion of the project involved relocating numerous water and wastwater lines to facilitate the conversion of 1325 to the new Loop 1 tollroad. Installation of app. 15000Lf of 48" and 54" Ductile Iron which relocated an exist. 36" line out of the future roadway alignment highlighted this project. Several tie-in's and interconnects were required as multiple lines serviced off of these large mains. In addition around 12000LF of 12" Ductile as well as numerous runs of 16"-36" Ductile Iron piping were also relocated. There were also approx. 10000LF of Wastewater relocations in sizes ranging from 8" to 18" that had to be made. This project also required 32 seperate bores/tunnels and numerous street open cuts to achieve completion.
